Receptive language refers to understanding or perceiving language (Balanced Literacy Diet, 2018). Receptive language challenges may result from a variety of specific impairments, including: hearing impairment, decoding or reading fluency, and lack of understanding of vocabulary. Consultation with a Speech-Language Pathologist or Psychologist is recommended in order to assess and accommodate for receptive language challenges.
